As a result of the December 26 tornadoes, Dallas County Community College District understands the desperate needs of our communities as they begin the recovery and rebuilding process. Our hearts go out to the families affected by this tragic event, and DCCCD through the collective efforts of our colleges, is ready to assist with staff and resources in a number of areas.
DCCCD will offer a number of free seminars to help victims of the storms get through this difficult time.

Eastfield will be providing free seminars:
Eastfield College Tornado Relief Seminars
- Insurance Navigation
- Identifying and working with a reputable contractor
- Benefits available under FEMA and other federal disaster assistance programs (once the area has been designated)
- Job training
- How to manage change and crisis
Eastfield will be offering free workforce training for construction:
Eastfield College is the lead training provider, and working with the other DCCCD colleges, will offer fast-track training free of charge for individuals needing employment during the rebuilding process, or for those individuals who suffered damage to their residence. DCCCD is working with construction companies in the area to place training participants into full-time employment opportunities as the rebuilding process begins. Starting wages may be up to $15/hour. Students will be able to finish most of the individual courses in less than a week.

- Construction tools and techniques
- Residential and light commercial blueprint reading
- Building remodeling
- Basic masonry
- Basic concrete work
- Roof systems
- Wall systems
- Other courses as the need arises
Representatives from one of the DCCCD colleges will be available at the Granger Recreation Center, 1310 W. Avenue F in Garland, to assist storm victims with information and enrollment into training courses. DCCCD will remain at the Granger Center as long as it remains open to assist storm victims.
DCCCD is asking for your assistance in the following areas:
- Identification of facilities where training and seminars can be held
- Outreach to the community and recruitment of training participants
